2 Must Have Travel Apps
The two apps on my phone that make everything possible and easy while traveling are Google Maps and ChatGPT.
I am frequently sending photos of brochures or asking for history lessons about a place. It feels like in Europe there’s always a battle or some story to most towns.
Today we got lunch in a town where Mussolini was captured while trying to sneak over to Switzerland. He was executed and then taken to Milan to have his body hung upside down in the town square and displayed for all to see.
Next, I went to a small church and took a photo of the brochure and it translates everything and can even bring context.
Maps is obvious must have. It not only gets you everywhere it is so damn accurate. It’s the reviews on places to eat that make this app number 1 all. I feel bad for food services that don’t lean in on customer service or food quality, because the more of the world turns to reviews before throwing down 85 Euro for dinner.
These two apps make 2024 travel to distant lands so frictionless it’s now too easy. Getting lost hard and that is part of travel. Now people are all over and there are fewer “off the beaten path” locations. Almost every corner of this country has some English speaking voyager like me hanging around.
Lastly, Apple Pay is used every single place I have gone. I haven’t used a single paper bill in 3 weeks.
I’m so tired. Paid for a month pass to watch the Euro Cup and now it’s bed time.
Night night! I mean happy 4:20

Just asked Midjourney to take the best photo of lake Como. It’s way better than mine.
