Build-a-Bonsai™

We all know about Build-A-Bear. Now, imagine that concept reimagined for bonsai. Envision stepping into a space that, despite possibly being located in a mall, radiates nature with its organic décor.

Upon entering the Build-A-Bonsai store, the first ten minutes are dedicated to immersing you in the ancient art and wisdom of nurturing bonsai. You’ll learn about the intricacies of growth and pruning, connecting you to centuries-old traditions.

Then, it’s time to select your pot. We offer an array of choices, from clay to wood, available in various colors and styles, ensuring you find the perfect match for your bonsai.

Over the next thirty minutes, you’ll engage in potting your bonsai in your selected base. This hands-on experience also covers the essentials of pruning, feeding, and overall care, tailored to your tree’s needs. We stock a variety of trees, specifically chosen for their compatibility with Utah’s environment—or wherever our store calls home.

As you leave with your new bonsai, the cost will range from $79 to $300, varying with how elaborate your choices are. We also provide affordable experiences for schools and groups at less than $50, accommodating quieter times during the day.

This idea blossomed while I was hiking a mountain trail in Miyajima last April. That solo hike to a secluded shrine was where I also learned that we might all be gods and death is a bug in the system we might be able to solve.

Anyway…this bonsai idea is a thought that revisits me monthly, so I know it should happen but I don’t have time to do it. Will someone reading this go for it?
