Ego is the Enemy
I am listening to a book by Ryan Holiday as I fly home. “Ego is the Enemy” is the name of this book that I exhausted an audible credit to buy.
Btw, Audible is a fantastic product. It just keeps going year after year and my library grows. I don’t even know how much money I’ve given them over the last 15 years of being a subscriber.
I just finished this book and I even though it’s fresh on my mind I can’t really tell you what to do about an ego. The book had so many good historical examples of egos that got in the way of leaders and examples where others didn’t feed into ego.
I ask the super intelligence what it thinks of ego and if we should have one:
Having an ego can be both beneficial and detrimental, depending on how it's managed.
**Benefits of Having an Ego:**
1. **Confidence:** A healthy ego can boost your self-confidence, helping you take risks, pursue goals, and believe in your abilities.
2. **Self-Identity:** Ego helps you form a sense of self, which is crucial for understanding your values, desires, and boundaries.
3. **Motivation:** Ego can drive you to achieve and succeed, pushing you to improve and overcome challenges.
4. **Resilience:** A strong ego can help you bounce back from setbacks, as it supports a belief in your ability to overcome difficulties.
**Drawbacks of Having an Ego:**
1. **Arrogance:** An inflated ego can lead to arrogance, making it difficult to accept feedback or recognize your limitations.
2. **Conflict:** A big ego can create conflicts in relationships, as it might prioritize your needs over others' or make you less empathetic.
3. **Stagnation:** If your ego makes you believe you're already the best, you might stop striving for growth, leading to stagnation.
4. **Isolation:** An overdeveloped ego can isolate you from others, as it may lead to a lack of genuine connections and a sense of superiority.
The key is balance. A healthy ego supports your growth and well-being, but when unchecked, it can become a barrier to personal development and harmonious relationships.
That’s my report. 4:20 for you 6:20 here for me in Atlanta en route to SLC.
