Italy Knocked Out

Italy got lucky playing Croatia earlier this week in the Euro Cup. But they ended up losing to Switzerland yesterday.

I can’t believe England got this goal a minute before being knocked out today:

I realized I have never been in a city or country when a team wins a final.

I did volunteer at the 2002 Winter Olympics and that was amazing to have gold medals one by locals.

I guess when I was really young I was in the Bay Area when the Giants and Athletics and 49rs were winning, but I was too young to really remember.

I guess I am discounting when Real Salt Lake won MLS but that just doesn’t have the same feel as the Jazz winning the NBA title.

I don’t consider myself “into sports” and I don’t follow much of anything unless it’s finals. I like the energy of countries putting their pride on the line and stopping everything to watch their teams play.

My daughter showed me this anime called Blue Lock which is Squid games meets soccer. In the show Japan is trying to train a striker so they can win the World Cup. It’s pretty intense and I like the story so far.

Off to bed, tomorrow I watch the Tour de France pass below our Airbnb. I’m gonna just wear a speedo and sandals when the peloton comes through the small town of Barbaresco.
