Mormon Transhumanist Con
I can’t go a week without referencing something about my unusual upbringing as a Mormon. The more I live, the more I look back with equal part honor and horror of the community I am a part of and the beliefs we share.
One of the great beliefs that many Mormons have is that we are gods in an embryonic state. I can get behind that. I for sure think we are all gods. The other belief that’s pretty neat is the idea of us living forever. I am not opposed to living forever. I want that more than anything I can think of. In fact, I’m dedicating my life’s work to the idea.
Many people in the faith believe we are all getting split up when we die and sorted into kingdoms depending on how much coffee or tea we drank while on earth. I remember the church lessons with these visuals of six spots in the universe you could end up in. It was called the “Plan of Salvation”, and where you go is based off of a worthiness checklist. You can always repent after you partake in your first Starbucks, so, basically you can go really close to the top if you say sorry. But you must get married in the temple to really get the best seats in the Celestial kingdom, (the Sun Kingdom). There is also a lesser kingdom of Planets or Moon (Terrestrial) and the kingdom of Stars (Telestial). There was also OUTER DARKNESS! You have to read that one outloud with a real deep man voice. If you are smiling while you read this, you enjoy life. If you are getting offended…you can email me all about it so I can share with my Instagram followers.
I remember as a youth often wishing I could just close my eyes before death and not deal with all the judgment that was going to happen when I die. Just let me become dirt guys! I definitely didn’t want the top plan because I figured that was going to be a place where you had to whisper and dress up like business people in white suits like we do for church and do crazy talk about how rad Elohim is for an eternity. Pass.
I didn’t want any of that. If I am going to live forever, put me where my friends are. But then I found out that if you don’t make it to the very top Sun kingdom, and you settle for the lesser, bottom kingdoms of the Stars or Planets, you are more or less a Ken or Barbie doll, with no genitals and can no longer get wet or get a boner. That sucks. So, now I kind of want to not die at all. I would rather not be dirt, or go to any of the kingdoms. This is where I believe Transhumanism comes in.
(Below is a how the Mormons like to diagram out the plan. Go figure Lucid was developed in Utah)
Enter Transhumanism. There are a group of Mormons who think we might be able to stay alive forever. Maybe we eventually just merge with robots or another higher intelligence. Kind of like the Singualarity. Here is an image of that:
If you are an intellectual and and love discussing matters of the future, this will be a conference you will like, even if you don’t subscribe to Mormonism. This is where the smart Mormons like to hang out with other smart humans. Many don’t give a shit about the corporation that runs the main sect of the Mormon faith that was recently renamed. It was The Corporation of the Presiding Bishop of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was renamed The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on June 18, 2019. And the corporation figures it holds all the power, but they don’t. I can be Mormon and not a member of the corporation. You can be Christian and not part of a church. You can be Jewish and not part of a synagogue. You can be Muslim and not part of a mosque. If any group tries to get between you and your personal faith...be suspect.
Utah is full of Mormons from birth, but a decreasing fraction follow the main sect. Most are cafeteria Mormons, picking what they enjoy and what serves them from their childhood beliefs. I have observed this in my encounters with thousands of conversation with thousands of Mormons. Very few are fundamentalist, but there are some and will surely speak up after reading this.
I am super excited to be supporting my friend, Carl Youngblood, who is helping make this conference happen. He is the reason I was able to meet and bring Bryan Johnson to town in January. Bryan is the leading thought leader in how not to die.
This conference will put you back $75 with my discount, but that is WAY cheaper than getting baptised and parting with 10% of your income to subscribe to the corporation. You will learn all crazy doctrine at this event too, the stuff that is off limits on Sunday.
