We All Shiver

We all shake

We all quiver

We all quake

I wrote this poem watching these tiny plants as they blew in the wind. This was Monday and the sun was setting and reflecting dark pinks on this mountain lake. I had just gone out paddle boarding and then did a 3 minute cold plunge.  I got out and played in this hammock for an hour and observed all the plant life.

The large trees and the small reeds were all moving, yet there was only a gentle breeze.  I was shivering at times as my body warmed up from the dip.

I was alone for 36 hours and at this point of my solo adventure I had begun speaking out loud to myself. Yes, I was not much different than the person on the streets of LA, saying stuff out loud to nobody.  I felt it to be very comforting to have an audible conversation with myself.   I was singing too.  Much like a musical at times, singing and narrating what I was doing or thinking.  That is about when this little rhyme came out of my mouth. There is nothing to be ashamed of if we shiver and shake.  The big trees do it as do the small grasses.

I just got off the plane in Houston when this gets distributed. I’m visiting my sister and brother in law, who are in a community production for Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat.  This year half my siblings have got lead parts in musicals in their communities. This isn’t something any of them did in Highschool or over the last 20 years. Turns out I’m not the only child making a scene.
